A custom illustration with handwritten type for my friend’s 40th birthday.

‘Everything Venn’ began as a go-to drawing exercise when I was feeling stuck – a way to draw something new and imaginative. It’s since become a series of unique illustrations I’m thinking of making into a book, postcards or posters.

I’d love to create a mural, large-format piece or decorate some construction hoarding. Here are some concepts I’ve put together that illustrate this… (Sorry).

Excuse My French wines are targeted towards women aged 25-35.

My aim was to evoke a vintage European liquor aesthetic, along with motifs which were undeniably French.

To create the illustrated brandmark, French motifs were explored and a single, refined character with Breton stripes and a beret became the focus.

The result is a bold, memorable and quirky label and brand asset.

A couple of little animations I’ve experimented with.

Alongside some pretty heavy hitters in the creative community, I was asked to contribute to Angela McCarthy’s ‘Community Of Characters’ poster design for San Francisco Design Week 2019. The theme was CommUNITY.

I’m a musician, as well as an illustrator and designer. The piano was the very first instrument I learnt to play, introducing me to the world of music. The illustration shows the ‘E’ note being played on a piano. E is the note that I hear in my head, in order to help me tune instruments and pitch.

Illustrated typography developed for the single Live In Life by Australian band, The Rubens.

The concept was to create a lockup that slowly warped, liquified and eroded – bubbling up like mercury.

The type is being featured on the band’s 2020 ‘Live in Life’ tour poster, as well as merchandise for upcoming shows and the opening credits of the music video.

I love music and illustration. When I’m not drawing something, I’m listening to, or playing, music. A lot of my high school years were spent drawing or painting while listening to mix tapes, triple j and CDs I’d borrow from friends. I poured over liner notes from bands like You Am I, Regurgitator, Custard and Veruca Salt as well as Aretha Franklin, Frank Zappa, Radiohead, Beck and Pavement. I listened to some of these songs more times than I care to remember, and still consider them some of my favourites.

I had been asked to develop a quarter page illustration, to accompany an article on language & literature, in the newly re-designed ‘QNews’ for Queenwood School.

I had also illustrated a suite of small portraits, depicting key members of school staff and alumni to accompany articles.

Working with Angela McCarthy, I had created some hand drawn type for her submission to ‘Mate Act Now’ = Climate Action Now – A poster protest for the digital generation.

From Angela: “The Scribbly Gum is a native Australian eucalyptus tree found throughout the South Coast of NSW (the stomping ground of my youth) and a species devastated by the recent bushfires.

It’s an easy gum to spot, due to distinctive markings along its smooth yellow-grey trunk. These scribbles are made by the moth grub as it tunnels between the old and new bark. Every year, when the tree sheds old bark, new markings are revealed. I found this a wonderful analogy for the change and renewal we must ensure happens.

This is the bush speaking out - screaming for help. For change. Let’s join in and speak out too. Shout for sweeping changes to our government’s climate change policy. Mate, act now. The bush has spoken.”
